When I was asked to read Stovall Weems new book The God First Life, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. I really did not have a reason, but it made me skeptical. I had this idea that this book would be a bit of a prosperity Gospel kind of book for some reason. These preconceived ideas ended up being a bit off and false.
The greatest challenge for me came when Stovall began the book with a chapter entitled “Your Life, God’s way.” This chapter was about doing life God’s way. He mentions something very challenging in this chapter that I wanted to share. Stovall calls them “game changers”
- God has a way for our lives. This was extremely helpful for me to be reminded that God has a specific plan for my life, and He wants to be involved in your life.
- We don’t have to carry the weight of our life alone. God intends to help you by carrying the difficult burdens of life for you. He intends for us to trust Him with the outcome of our lives.
- God’s way is better than ours. This is simple, but so difficult to remember and trust. God’s way is indeed better than ours. He has a plan that is better, and He has a means to the plan that is better than ours.
These three game changers are in many ways the core of the book. This is where the premise is found. If you constantly look through life through these three game changers, you can find your way to living a God first life.
As for the review, I liked the book. There was nothing in the book that will shock you or wow you. I personally like that Stovall did not take the 10 step method approach to the God first life. He challenged readers through principles mentioned in the book. I give the book a 7 out of 10. Good book Stovall.
