My “To read” list continues to grow, because it seems that writers are writing faster than I am reading. Here are the books that I plan to read in 2013 as of now. Obviously as new books are put out, this list could change this coming year.
- The Reason for God by Tim Keller
- Simple Life by Thom Rainer
- Erasing Hell by Francis Chan
- Preach: Where theology meets practice by Mark Dever
- Glorious Ruin by Tullian Tchividjian
- Follow by David Platt (Coming February, 2013)
- Bloodlines by John Piper
- Raising the Bar by Alvin Reid
- Multiply by Francis Chan
- Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
- Stop Asking Jesus into your heart: How to know for sure that you are saved by J.D. Greear
- You Lost me by David Kinnaman
- Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman
- Unleash by Perry Noble
- Jesus Centered Youth Ministry by Rick Lawrence
Question: What books are you planning on reading in the year 2013?
Erasing Hell and Not A Fan are both really good!! You will greatly enjoy them.
Can’t wait to read those books. I appreciate the encouragement. Do you have any that you would add to the list Anna?
Even though I’ve read it a gillion times, I’m really focusing in on “The Celebration of Discipline” this year. Each month I’m focusing on a different discipline, in hopes that it will become a part of my daily life. January, Meditation. 🙂
That is an awesome idea Heather! Appreciate the idea for all of us to see. Have a great 2013!
I would highly recommend: What Would It Take For Youth To Come To Church? This book talks about ‘Social Innovation Within the Church.’ Hundreds of youth were surveyed at the street level. Numerous Youth Pastors were interviewed and over three hundred churches were visited to examine their receptiveness to youth. Although the data is scary, the recommendations for social innovation are clear and compelling. See http://www.faithmentor.net.
Thanks for the input Wayne. I will have to check that out.
Reading list, 2013:
1. NKJV Bible
2. One day at a time
3. The courage to change
4. Hope for today
5. Psalms – NIV
6. Proverbs – NIV
7. No easy day (prep for military chaplaincy, special operations…)
Not a Fan was one that I read this last year. I am now going through it again with my student leadership team. Your list looks like a solid one.
I actually picked up “Not a fan” recently, and I plan to read it as well. I have heard so much positive stuff about that book.
“Bloodline” by Piper is one of the best books on racial, Gospel unity I have ever read! Important subject and a great read. Also, “Raising the Bar” was one of the best youth ministry books I have ever read. Great list with many books I want to read this year as well! Thanks for sharing Josh!
Austin
When you start Raising the Bar, let me know. I read it a few years back, but would love to read it again. Maybe we can read it together and share thoughts.
Josh,
I have read a few of them, and actually got a little excited when I saw Follow by Platt, did not know about that one. Not a Fan is a phenomenal book, we actually did a weekend event based off of some of the points in it. One that I would recommend would be Explicit Gospel by Matt Chandler, it is not theologically heavy but is a nice reminder. Another that I have heard to be amazing and is on my personal list is Love Does by Bob Goff. It is story after story of what happens when God’s love shows up. Thanks for your passion.
