Mission Trip Idea: Team [Your Own City]

Here is a quick idea that ran through my mind recently. We recently came back from Jamaica on a short-term mission trip with our student ministry. We have a burden now to reach our city with the Gospel. We are going to plan a mission trip soon (working on logistics now) to our own city. It will be overnight. We are working on making this mission trip as much a cultural difference as possible so our students can see what a mission trip is like. We are going to plan this small overnight trip exactly like we would a short-term mission trip to a foreign country. This is just a quick idea that I want to challenge you on. Why not consider doing this in your own city?

  1. hai Bro. Josh it is a good idea that we reach our own city. I do appreciate this idea of getting our church involved in ministry in our own city. this will help increase the participation of members since the ministry is within their reach…. I would really glad to do it in my city too ……….. thank you

  2. Would be interested to see what you are planning etc. We live in a small scottish town but perhaps there are things that could transfer to our situation?

    1. It is something that just popped into my head as I came home from Jamaica from our short term mission trip. We are still working on logistics, but will blog when we have more details. You can also email me at joshhevans@gmail.com for more information along the way if you have questions.

  3. This is a great idea! Great way to help students understand we are to be missionaries in our hometown. Would love to hear more about this as you guys plan it in more detail.

  4. Thank you for this post! This idea literally just popped into my head as well a minute ago. So I googled ‘mission trip in your own city’ and there it was. I would love to do a trip abroad, but feel very led to be serving where I am. Thanks again and God bless.

    1. This was a great opportunity to serve our city and the local ministries that we (when we think of missions) forget. We think of overseas or large groups nationally, but what about the local homeless shelters, rescue missions, Children’s homes, pregnancy care centers, etc? Your students will love this event! I wish you the best, and let me know how it goes and what you guys end up doing- joshhevans@gmail.com.
