I do not claim to be this mega leader, but the Lord has called me to this position. He has called me, and therefore, I am now adequate in Him to accomplish His will. It is not me, but rather Him working in me. One thing that I try to do to grow as a leader is surround myself with people who will sharpen me as a leader. I want to give you 5 people leaders should surround themselves with:

  1. People with a strong desire to be holy– I want to be around people who have this inward desire to be holy in all manner of life. I want to be around people who think about their walk with the Lord, and try to do things that will enhance their relationship with Jesus!
  2. People with big vision– Vision is important for leaders. It is the leader’s job to find out where God wants to take the ministry. I sometimes struggle with articulating vision, it is a struggle that I personally have. Well, in the midst of that, I have tried to surround myself with people who have vision and can help me better articulate vision.
  3. People who need help– This is what leadership is all about. We must as leaders be with the people who are not leaders! We have to find ourselves in the trenches helping those who do not have it altogether.
  4. People who care about the “least of these”– This is something that I am learning, but I want to be around people who care about the roughest of sinners out there. Now, in our theological world, all of us are equal when we are born. There is not a sin that you can commit that makes you a greater sinner than I. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. I want to be around people who see the people on the streets the same way that they see their neighbors and church friends! It challenges me to be more compassionate about the lost.
  5. People who are positive– Leaders need encouragement. We get criticized so much for decisions that we need people who are going to encourage us in our faith, but in our leadership skills and development.

[Question]: As a leader, what kind of person do you try to surround yourself with?
