First Day of WOL Camp 2011

Hey this is Mark and I will be guest blogging for Josh throughout this week while the Grove is at Word of Life Camp. Josh asked me to consistently blog throughout the week to keep everyone informed about what is going on. This is our first day, and things have already kicked into high gear! We arrived today at camp around 2 p.m. Check-in time was between 2-5 p.m. so  we arrived right when check-in started. Our trip down was very smooth, and we made excellent timing. The LORD provided us safety and we were right on schedule when arriving at camp this afternoon.

After the students were all checked in and had settled into their cabins, they ate dinner and we attended the first night service of the week. This service was at 7 p.m. and was packed with enthusiasm. This service is always geared towards evangelism and students are always given the invitation to accept Christ for the first time. I never heard an exact number, but approximately a dozen students came forward to accept Christ for the first time tonight! This is always a great way to start the week, and it’s always great to see how God changes others lives the same way He has changed ours upon accepting Jesus.

When this service ended, there was a 30 minute break and then we came back for a night rally. The night rally the first night always introduces the camp theme for the week, and it is always packed with tons of energy! This year’s camp theme is a “Wild West” theme so things such as  the stage are decorated, people are dressed up like cowboys, and various other activities are centered around this theme for the week. The students are also told which team they will be on for the week. There are four teams (all of which of the names pertain to the “Wild West” theme) that the students are on and compete with one another throughout the week. Today was a great day, but we are very exhausted (at least we as leaders are!).  But we are looking forward to a great week of camp and are looking forward to what God is going to do in the lives of our teenagers. I would encourage you to pray for us daily as we are here at Word of Life Camp this week! Tomorrow we start Teens Involved (T.I.) and I will be posting updates for the competitions as well as the other events that our students will be participating in!
